Potentially Interesting Park Geneology

I found a geneology website with the following record for a Nathan Park(e)"

"Nathan PARKE (2402, FSP422) was born on 20 May 1774. He married Pamelia HEATH (2417, FSP422W) circa 1795. He witnessed "Among the early settlers in the west portion of the town, were Samuel Coleman, Clark Bailey, Nathan Park, Zenas Northway and Ozias Northway, who kept a tavern near the Post Office, Archibald and John Garfield, Graudius Cuddeback, whose widow is a niece of Major Moses De Witt; Wm. Sniffen, Hendrick Upperhousen, a Hessian who was captured from the British army, and John Hill, also a Hessian " before 1800 at Lafayette, Onondaga, NY.446 He died circa 1812 at Cardiff, NY."

I think she is making an assumption that Parke changed his name to Park. Or, she might think that N. Parke and N. Park are the same person... Census recorders frequently spelled what they heard, and didn't take the time to get spellings accurate. Anyhow, if her records are accurate, she has fairly extensive GEDCOM file on the Park(e)s and their relatives. I have it on my PC, and can show you when I'm in town. Click here. the GEDCOM is on her home page. Any geneology program should be able to read it. The Nathaniel Parke traces back to a Robert Parke, who was christened in Suffolk, England in 1580 and lived in Mystic, CT. There's lots of info on all the Park(e)s in between. They were mostly in Voluntown and Preston, CT. Neat stuff.

Of course, right after I type that I searched an 1880 census record for the Nathan Park from Cardiff (assumed he was a descendant of the Nathan Parke). Nathan's father is actually from Massachusetts, not CT. So, at first glance, it would appear there is not a match. Nathan was a carpenter and his wife's name was "Phebie" BTW.

Pete-Very interesting. I will show this to Adam later. Would have been great if your initial search turned out to be the correct one. Miss you! J

We're looking forward to seeing you guys sometime between the 16th and 22nd. My phone still works, as Adam could find out if....

It would be interesting to learn about Adam's family's history if he/Charlie can dig it up.

You guys are really lucky. There is a good deal of info about your family line. Maybe you already know this?

I can show you how to find this stuff if you're interested. You should consider contributing copies of your information to some of the existing data sets. Nathan's father would be the key to connecting your family to the line in Mass.
